Weasel Removal & Control in Indiana

Long-tailed weasels and least weasels are found throughout Indiana. Like mink, they are aggressive predators capable of entering very small openings (as small as 3/4 inch). Weasels are known for surplus killing — slaying more prey than they can immediately consume — making them particularly devastating in poultry operations. They primarily prey on mice and voles, making them beneficial in agricultural settings, but they will readily switch to poultry, rabbits, and game birds when opportunity allows. Licensed operators can trap problem weasels and inspect and seal entry points in poultry housing to prevent future access.

Common Weasel Issues

  • Surplus killing of poultry and game birds
  • Entering poultry housing through very small gaps
  • Predation on rabbits and small pets

Prevention Tips

  • Secure all gaps 3/4 inch or larger in poultry housing with hardware cloth
  • Store chicken feed in sealed metal containers to avoid attracting rodents
  • Inspect the entire base and roofline of poultry houses for gaps
  • Install poultry housing floors to prevent tunneling entry
